I'd always thought I'd have my own business and when I first started I drove from South Texas, right across the border into the country by MYSELF to guy sterling silver jewelry (you can see some of my jewelry here) and artisan merchandise. I had just flown down from Denver into Laredo and I told me dad the night I arrived I was leaving to Mexico the next day - and not before because I did not want him to worry and I did not want him to stop me. He looked at me, stuttered a little and asked, You're what? His eyes were big and his voice was very stern. I'm leaving to Mexico tomorrow, I repeated.
